Scoliosis, kyphosis and postural disorders

With spinal curvature, choosing exercises on your own is not appropriate — medical supervision and an individual programme matter.

Can I exercise on my own with scoliosis or kyphosis?

No. In spinal problems such as scoliosis and progressive kyphosis, selecting exercises on your own is not appropriate. Especially when the problem is significant, exercise alone is not enough: medical supervision, physiotherapy, rehabilitation with individual exercises and Schroth scoliosis exercises are needed.

What is kyphosis?

Kyphosis is a condition in which the spine curves excessively forwards. With the right approach and physiotherapy, it is possible to protect spinal health and improve everyday quality of life.

What are the signs of a postural disorder?

  • Often standing hunched
  • One shoulder sitting lower than the other
  • A feeling of curvature in the lower back

These signs may be linked to kyphosis or scoliosis. It is important to assess postural problems early and start the right physiotherapy programme.

What is postural re-education?

Postural re-education is a physiotherapy approach that aims to restore correct posture, movement mechanics and muscle balance. If postural disorders, muscle imbalance and restricted movement affect daily life, a proper assessment and an individual approach are important.

On everyday habits: Poor sitting posture.
