Neural therapy and dry needling

Needle-based treatments used alongside other physiotherapy methods in chronic pain syndromes, muscle spasm and trigger points.

What is neural therapy?

Neural therapy is a complementary treatment aimed at the autonomic nervous system, in which a local anaesthetic is injected at specific points. It is used in chronic pain syndromes together with other treatments.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling treats tense points within a muscle — trigger points — directly with an acupuncture needle. It is called “dry” because no medication is injected through the needle.

What is myofascial pain syndrome?

A condition in which hidden trigger points in the muscles cause persistent pain in the neck, upper back, lower back and shoulder. The main causes are a long-term sedentary lifestyle, stress and tension, and poor posture.

When are these treatments used?

  • Chronic low back and neck pain
  • Fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome
  • Muscle spasm
  • Muscle tension linked to a sedentary lifestyle

Well-chosen physiotherapy procedures, individually selected exercises, dry needling and neural therapy protocols relax the muscles, improve circulation and help reduce pain. More: Fibromyalgia and myofascial pain.
